I'm thrilled to announce that my microstartup Vim Ninja has been acquired just two months after its launch! I'm still in shock that what started as a personal project turned into so much more.
It all started in December 2022, when I was trying to learn Vim, a keyboard-based terminal editor. I wanted to improve my productivity while writing code, but I didn't want to go through the hassle of configuring a new tool. So I decided to create Vim Ninja, An app that would allow developers to practice Vim through an interactive, browser-based course.
After months of development, Vim Ninja was finally ready for launch in May 2023. It quickly gained support on Product Hunt, Hacker News, Reddit, and other tech communities. I also received some valuable feedback from users, which I used to improve the product.
To my surprise, I was approached by a few interested buyers a few months later. Although I initially didn't expect much from my discussions with them, I was still excited to see where things might end up.
In the end, I settled on selling Vim Ninja. Since I start university in the fall, I knew that I'd have limited time to work on the project and take it to the next level. I also saw this as a good opportunity to experience the acquisition process firsthand.
I'm very happy with how far Vim Ninja has come, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to have built something that people love. If you'd like to keep up with what I'm building next, you can follow me on Twitter and connect with me on LinkedIn.
